Experiencing Unbearable Knee Pain? Take a Good Look at Your Q Angle

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there are more than 700,000 Americans undergoing total knee replacement surgeries annually. These surgeries are often done as an aid to alleviate a person’s knee pain, which is often caused by a traumatic incident. What most people overlook, however, is that the Q angle can also be an indicator of knee pain. What Is the Q Angle? In scientific terms, the Q angle is a line that represents the resultant line of force on your quadriceps, and are made by connecting a point near the anterior superior iliac spine (or ASIS) of your pelvis to the midpoint of the patella. You’ll notice that some doctors will examine your Q angle if you’re experiencing knee pain, particularly if the Q angle is off.
